School executives set high standards for the professional practice of 21st century instruction and assessment that result in a no nonsense accountable environment. The school executive must be knowledgeable of best instructional and school practices and must use this knowledge to cause the creation of collaborative structures within the school for the design of highly engaging schoolwork for students, the on-going peer review of this work, and the sharing of this work throughout the professional community.
Element IIa. Focus on Learning and Teaching, Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment: The principal/assistant principal leads the discussion about standards for curriculum, instruction and assessment based on research and best practices in order to establish and achieve high expectations for students. Artifact: Walk Through ToolI developed this online Walk-Through tool for use by Leadership Team to facilitate discussions about improving instruction. This tool was designed to allow for structured data collection of classroom instructional practices.
Artifact: Writing WallThis is a visual display of vertical alignment of writing tasks throughout the school. I collected the pieces and assembled the wall display to highlight this alignment and enhance vertical planning.
Artifact: PLT Leaders' Meeting AgendaAs part of my role on the Leadership team, I led monthly meetings of PLT Leaders to facilitate discussion of academic issues and concerns. At these meetings we used data from Educator Handbook, iReady, mClass, and common assessments to made decisions for future instruction.
Element IIb. Focus on Instructional Time: The principal/assistant principal creates processes and schedules which protect teachers from disruption of instructional or preparation time.
Artifact: 2017-18 Master ScheduleWorked with Leadership team to develop a master schedule to allow for extended PLT meetings once per week.
Artifact: Half-Day PLT Planning ScheduleDeveloped a schedule to provide class coverage so teams could have an uninterrupted block of planning time. This gave teachers the opportunity to plan lessons and develop common assessments for the coming quarter. These occur each quarter.
Artifact: Benchmark & EOG Testing ScheduleDeveloped a testing schedule to allow maximum work time for Grades 3 -5 and to minimize disruptions for grades K-2.
Artifact: First Grade Instructional AssistanceI helped develop a plan for Grade 1 instructional assistants to support Grade 2 Literacy centers. This maximizes human resources in our building, allowing us to provide support with fewer resources.
