A school executive will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but, in fact, build community, the leader proactively creates with staff, opportunities for parents/guardians, community, and business representatives to participate as “stockholders” in the school such that continued investment of resources and good will are not left to chance.
Element VIa. Parent and Community Involvement and Outreach: The principal designs structures and processes which result in parent and community engagement, support and ownership for the school.
Artifact: Pencils of Promise Tutoring I coordinated the placement of tutors from the UNC-Chapel Hill service organization Pencils of Promise. Students from UNC-Chapel Hill volunteered in both our after school program and in a 4th grade classroom.

Element VIb. Federal, State and District Mandates: The principal designs protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state, and district mandates. Artifact: Exceptional Children IEP Team Meeting Minutes I frequently served as LEA Representative for our Exceptional Children meetings.
Artifact: Take Two Remediation Plan Take Two is a district mandated program for remediation and retesting students who would benefit from the opportunity to re-take the End of Grade test. I helped to devise the school plan to make this happen. Artifact: End of Grade Test Groups The team worked to ensure all students entitled to modifications via an IEP received them.
